Treatment Planning Considerations in Full Mouth Rehabilitations

Presented by Alec Zurek, DDS, MS

Course Description

Comprehensively planning the worn, damaged or missing dentition can be overwhelming and difficult to know "where to start."  As life expectancy increases and the demographic of our senior population continues to grow, the need for more extensive rehabilitations for the patients you see in your practice will similarly increase.  With advancements in dental implant technology and clinical techniques, it can also become confusing when it makes sense to salvage a patient's remaining dentition or consider an "All-on-4" to replace what may be a terminal set of teeth.   Many of your patients will rely on you for guidance as their trusted dental provider of often many years, even if you are not providing this type of care.  It is my goal with this presentation to help provide a foundational understanding on how I approach the care of patients who require a full mouth rehabilitation, and the pros and cons if different treatment options are available.

Course Objectives

After attending this course, the participant should be able to:

  • Develop a foundational understanding on when a dentition is best salvaged and restored vs replaced
  • Treatment planning considerations and staging in a full mouth rehabilitation
  • Understanding the pros and cons of different rehabilitation modalities, and potential long-term maintenance

About the Speaker

Dr. Alec Zurek received his Bachelor of Arts in Biology at Illinois Wesleyan University and his Doctor of Dental Surgery at University of Illinois College of Dentistry. He then completed a three-year residency in the specialty of Prosthodontics at the University of Illinois College of Dentistry. He earned his Masters of Sciences degree during his prosthodontic residency program, by evaluating the wear potential of dental ceramics against the natural dentition and other dental ceramics, to best evaluate how dental restorations hold up intra-orally after years of patient use. Dr. Zurek earned his board-certification shortly after residency training, and is a Fellow of the American College of Prosthodontists.  He maintains a private practice in Naperville with fellow board certified prosthodontist, Dr. Craig Sikora. Their practice is limited to the restorative treatment of teeth and dental implants only, with a large focus on patient care that requires comprehensive treatment.  Dr. Zurek was raised in the city of Naperville, and enjoys providing complex restorative treatment to patients in the community he grew up in.
